Dolphins met Powerdown Pete this week!

On Wednesday, Powerdown Pete made a visit to school to tell us all about the effects that we can have on the planet and what we can do to look after it. In the afternoon he did a variety of activities with us to show how we can enjoy the outdoors instead of using electricity.

In English, we have been writing letters this week. We first looked at a model and identified the features of a letter before thinking of new sentences and ideas that we could add to make it better. Then we planned our own letter, to ask Mrs Cuddy for a school trip this term. We thought of a place we would like to visit and used a variety of adjectives to describe it. At the end of the week we started to write our plans into a letter format. In Mathematics, we have completed our work on place value. We looked at torn number squares and had to decide on the scale and then complete the missing numbers. We also worked on rounding numbers and locating them on a number line. At the end of the week we looked at addition again, using the column method. This is quite tricky and we will be continuing with the work next week. In Topic, we focused on the Queen this week as a significant person in history, due to it being her 90th birthday yesterday. We learned about some of the jobs that she has to do as well as information about her family. In PE, we continued with gymnastics. On Monday the children worked hard at the gymnastics festival at Campsmount. They have worked today to create a sequence including a travel, jump or hop and then a balance, ensuring that they vary the heights that they work at.

Further information

Thank you for completing the exemplar papers and comprehension sheets with your child. Another has been sent home today, although the maths is problem solving this week as opposed to arithmetic.
