Eagles Class (Year 5/6)

Welcome to Eagles Class, where we have 25 Year 5 and 6 pupils this year.  Eagles are taught by Mrs Homes, who works alongside teaching assistants Mrs Whittles and Mrs Holt.

Learning in Eagles class is very child-led wherever possible, encouraging a pertinent and creative curriculum tailored to the interests of the pupils, whilst ensuring we work hard to fly through our Year 6 SATs! We are preparing our fledglings to fly the nest to high school and, as our eldest members of the school, Eagles are encouraged to  take responsibility and lead a wide range of activities and roles within our school, from chairing the School Council, to running the playground 'Buddy' scheme and leading Christian value and Whoosh Assemblies.

Eagles say farewell to Mrs Beedle

Posted 11/6/2016

We wished a fond farewell to Mrs Beedle this week in Eagles. She has been on teacher training placement with us for a large proportion of the year, so we were all sad to see her go but with huge congratulations for passing her course with flying colours! We know she will go on to be a great teacher in her own school next year. We look forward to settling into a new routine with Miss Freeman covering the maternity leave for Mrs Wilkinson on Thursday and Fridays.

As a leaving present Mrs Beedle promised Eagles a last homework- free week, however don't forget  there are learning logs to be completed as usual. The theme set by Mrs Cuddy is 'gaming' this week, so you should all have plenty to write about as I know we have some avid gaming fans in class!

Next week, we will be attending the Y6 boys cricket qualify at Askern. Any parents wishing to attend are very welcome to pop down to Askern CC from 1-3pm to lend their support. Continuing the sporting theme, just a reminder that sports day is Tuesday afternoon with Eagles class running from 1pm. Keep your fingers crossed for a dry week as it would be a real shame if the weather spoils our fun!

Summer Term Eagles Topic

Post SATS Fun!

Posted 21/5/2016

Eagles Class had a fantastic day on Tuesday when they joined forces with Cobblers Lane Primary in Pontefract to let off some post SATs steam. We had a real adventure exploring Brockadale and building dens and managed to clock up 7 miles each towards our Run to Rio project.  All the children behaved impeccably and Mrs Holmes (from Cobblers' Lane) and myself were extremely proud of their team ethos and how warm and welcoming all children were towards each other. We are hoping to repeat this collaboration of ideas in a return trip to Pontefract in July, so we are all greatly looking forward to that.

Just a reminder that homework will be back up and running this week for Y5s and Y6s will still be receiving a Learning Log each week. All homework will now be sent on a Friday to be returned on a Thursday please (including spelling Y5s).  The learning log this week is to launch our new Summer topic of 'Hollywood to Bollywood.'  Great creative and arty Eagles!

Mrs Wilkinson has now left to begin her maternity leave and we would all like to wish Mrs Wilkinson good luck with the upcoming birth of baby Wilkinson :-)
