This week in Lions Class...

Posted 22/4/2016

A mysterious package arrived in class this week, which we weren’t allowed to open. We discussed reasons why we should and shouldn’t open the box, then made a conscience walk to help us decide whether we should open the box or not. We then read the story of Pandora’s Box, a Greek myth about a box which contained the miseries of the world. The children have started learning the text and making story maps. In maths we have been thinking about fractions. The children have been finding fractions of amounts by dividing an amount by the denominator and multiplying by the numerator. In topic this week we have explored the origins of the Olympics, as well as discussing this years’ Olympic games in Rio. The children have made their own timelines of some of the important events in the history of the Olympics, such as the introduction of the flame and the games being cancelled at one point due to WW1.

We have also had a very special visit from Powerdown Pete this week. We learnt about pollution and some of the issues which are harming our planet such as deforestation. The children raced against the clock to match pictures to their issues. We also calculated our carbon footprint and thought about some of the problems which waste electricity and what the solutions are.

The learning log for this week is ‘Earth Day’. Maths homework is online and spellings have been sent home.
