School web sites

All web sites developed using the Site Builder tool provided as part of the North Yorkshire Learning Net are required to comply with the relevant sections of the general Privacy Policy as set out below.

The Learning Net Privacy Policy

The North Yorkshire Learning Net exists solely as a resource for all in the North Yorkshire learning community. Its purpose is not only to provide access to information, but also the opportunity for those concerned with education to contribute ideas and share expertise.

To protect the interests of schools and to enable the distribution of centrally purchased licensed products, North Yorkshire Learning Net requires completion of a site Registration and Logon procedure to gain full and customised access.

The registration process requires all users to provide contact information comprising name and email address. The contact information is used to verify the identity of users and to communicate with them as necessary for the general management of the web site (eg contributors to databases are emailed automatic acknowledgements of their contributions). North Yorkshire Learning Net does not and will never rent, sell, or in any way misuse the information provided.

Different user groups are additionally asked for further information (eg teachers are asked which schools they work in and to indicate the range of subjects and ages they are concerned with). The additional information is used to customise the web site to individual users and to maintain appropriate mailing lists (eg the Conference Forums are able automatically to email selected groups to inform them of new contributions).

Users may at any time opt out of receiving emails from such mailing lists by contacting unsubscribe@n-yorks.net stating their username and the name of the list they wish to opt out of.

Some sections of North Yorkshire Learning Net ask for information particular to that section. In all cases the information is to enable users to retrieve and categorise their own contributions (eg their record of PSHCE focused work) and is not publicly displayed.

At any time registered users are able to logon on to view and edit all the information pertaining to them, which is held within the web site database. A general operating principle of North Yorkshire Learning Net is that contributors are always able, either directly or indirectly, to edit their own contributions.

In addition, database and conference contributions are subject to moderation by a section Editor. The email contact for each editor is always provided within the relevant section.

North Yorkshire Learning Net contains links to other sites, which are selected in good faith, but is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites. Schools should ensure that children are properly protected from inappropriate content by providing filtered internet access. Security

North Yorkshire Learning Net maintains a dedicated server with security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.

Data protection

The Schools Learning Network is registered under the Data Protection Act as part of North Yorkshire County Council who are the registered Data Controller. North Yorkshire County Council is committed to maintaining your personal information in a manner which meets the requirements of the Data Protection Act (1998) and will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is kept secure against unauthorised access, loss, disclosure or destruction.
